Lifestyles 2008 - Overview

Following the success of last year's event, the 2008 Lifestyles Extreme Sports Festival proved to be equally popular, despite the breakthrough downpours (and I mean downpours!).

This - all free - key event in the local calendar was organised in partnership with the Lifestyles Association,
The Borough Council of King's Lynn & West Norfolk’s Sports Development Unit, Hunstanton Sailing Club and Klas-A. The primary sponsor of this year's event was Adrian Flux Insurance Services.  Other sponsors included Veolia Environmental Services and City College Norwich.  City College provided a Sports Therapy Unit and a climbing wall plus staff to help run the event.

The weekend kicked off with the rain and then the clouds broke for the skate boarders.  Things dried out in time for displays by the kite surfers, BMX bikes and roller bladers.  On Friday, local school children had the opportunity to have a go at kiting, kayaking, skateboarding BMX bikes, inline skating and climbing.

The weekend's activities also included the Dubfolk VW Car Show, break dance demos, trampoline training and there was open access to the skate park for those who wanted to try it out.

Round 3 of the British Kite Surfing Association's National Championship Grand Prix was once again hosted by the town.  The Festival, as in the past, attracted both national pros and local riders and skaters from the King's Lynn Adrenalin Sports Association (Klas-A).

Live groups included Billy No Mates, Newtown Kings, Captain Black No Stars, Plan A, Rebelation and Ettin (Hunstanton Battle of the Bands winner) who took it in turns to entertain visitors to the Festival in the North Promenade marquee on Friday and Saturday nights.  Climbing, kite action, BMX and skating displays all took place throughout the weekend.
