Hunstanton High Street Shut
in Aftermath of January Storms
Friday, 19 January 2007
Stella of HOL would like to thank Keith Winsor (Heacham Digital Camera Club) for these photos
and for his accompanying report

Right across the UK on Thursday, 80-100 mile per hour winds wrought havoc for many towns causing widespread damage to property as well as death and injury to some.  It was fortunate for Hunstanton High Street traders and shoppers that, as he arrived for work the day after,  Keith Winsor noticed the storms had dislodged tiles on the roof of "Bits & Pieces".  Realising that the loose debris could easily fall on top of passersby, Keith sought assistance from Paul the local Police Community Support Officer who happened by.   Paul duly called out the Fire Brigade and shut off access to the High Street.  On assessing the situation, the firecrew subsequently noted similar problems for Ladbrokes Bookmakers and Hughes Electrical.

It took the plucky team two and a half hours to make the buildings secure enabling the High Street to re-open to shoppers.

Well done Keith.    Click to see Heacham-On-Line coverage of the storms
