Sad End to Well Known Landmark
Hunstanton Pier Burns Down
Saturday, 18 May 2002
|
At 5:20am on Saturday, 18 May 2002, Hunstanton Pier and Entertainment Centre, plus an adjoining electrical sub-station burst into flames. The heat was so intense that it blew the concrete roof off into the sea. Divisional Fire Officer Terry Larkowsky told me the blaze was attended by eight fire engines and fifty four firemen. The Hydraulic Platform came from Skegness and the water bowser, which pumps foam, was called out from Heathersett. The Pier, owned by CHS Amusements, is now just a burned out shell and in danger of collapse. A member of the HOL News Team was there to capture events as they unfolded. |
